"Be strong and courageous, do not be afraid or tremble at them, for the Lord your God is the one who goes with you. He will not fail you or forsake you. Then Moses called to Joshua and said to him in the sight of all Israel, 'Be strong and courageous, for you shall go with this people into the land which the Lord has sworn to their fathers to give them, and you shall give it to them as an inheritance. The Lord is the one who goes ahead of you; He will be with you. He will not fail you or forsake you. Do not fear or be dismayed.'" -Deuteronomy 31.6-8
Soon Israel will be crossing the Jordan to enter the Promised Land. Forty years earlier they were preparing for the same thing, but fear spread through the camp and as a result the people spent forty years wandering the wilderness. They need to be strong and courageous, and they can be because God is going with them.
People need to know that God is with them on everything He calls them to undertake. He will not abandon them or fail to come through for them. God is faithful. He has proven His faithfulness over and over, and will continue to be faithful as long as the people trust and obey Him. But it isn't just the masses that need to trust God.
Leadership must be fully dependent upon God. Moses calls Joshua and, before the whole nation, charges him to be strong and courageous as he leads the people. He is reminded that God is with HIm and will not forsake him. He does not need to be afraid or discouraged because he is God's chosen leader.
Strength and courage are needed to fulfill God's plan and receive all that He has promised. Without them we cannot trust God.
Men, let us be strong and courageous. Let those words characterize our lives, our faith, and our actions. Let us challenge those we lead with them. Let us pass them on to those we train as leaders. Strength and courage.
"Iron sharpens iron, so one man sharpens another."
To God alone be the Glory!
Strength and Honor
