To God

"Then they said to him, 'We have had a dream and there is no one to interpret it.' Then Joseph said to them, 'Do not interpretations belong to God? Tell it to me, please.'" -Genesis 40.8

Joseph has done well in everything he has done.  Whether free or in prison, he has risen to the top.  It's all been because God was with him, and Joseph knows that.  And here when he has a chance to shine and show his gift, he gives the credit to God.

Joseph realizes that it isn't his own ability that allows him to know the meaning of dreams.  He says that the interpretation belongs to God.  God does not need Joseph to explain the meaning, He could use anyone, but He's using Joseph and Joseph is giving God the glory.

Men, whatever gifts and abilities you have are not by your doing, God gave them to you.  Whatever you are doing for Him, He could raise up someone else to do it.  That is not saying do nothing because God can get somebody else to do it.  Rather it is saying don't be arrogant thinking you're God's gift to humanity.

Use the gifts that God has given you fully, and for His glory.  But realize that the gifts you have are blessings from Him.  My preaching professor said this on the last day of class,  "May you always feel confident to preach the Gospel, but never so confident to think that you can do it alone."  Preaching is one of the areas God has blessed me in, and honestly, I really miss the opportunity to do it weekly.  But it is crucial that I give God the glory for my gift, because just as He gave it, He can take it away.

Give glory to God, and watch how He uses the gifts He has given you.

"Iron sharpens iron, so one man sharpens another."

To God alone be the Glory!

Strength and Honor
